Barcaldine Solar Farm

CATCON were engaged by Green Light Contractors (GLC) to construct the civil works, piles, mechanical, and PV Modules for a 20 MWAC (25 MWDCp) Solar PV Project approximately 4 kms East of Barcaldine (central QLD). The Project consists of 25 MWDCp of single axis tracking arrays over an area of approximately 298 Ha. It will be the largest solar PV tracking facility in Queensland.

CATCON’s contract work was completed 6 weeks ahead of schedule over an 18 week period. Some challenges on the project included working on a sandy site with a lot of tree roots which was also relatively remote. Main equipment used included; Vermeer PD10 Pile driver (first in Australia), 20 and 30Ton Excavators, 5 Ton Ex, Skid steers, Telehandlers, Grader.

  • 3.6km of unsealed road including drainage
  • 11,800 piles
  • 990 Tracker systems containing, 700,000 individual components
  • 79,000 PV modules
