The Dry Creek Rail Yard Relocation involved the construction of new metro rail yards in the inner Northern suburbs of Adelaide.
CATCON completed civil works including; earthworks, pavements, handling processing and disposal of contaminated fill materials, piling for future electrification, piling works for lighting, Dry Common Services (DCS) including Signalling, electrical and communication infrastructure, Wet Common Services (WCS) potable water pump stations, reclaimed water reticulation including pump stations, stormwater infrastructure including major pit and box culvert installations, sewer infrastructure including pump stations, trade waste infrastructure including pump stations, reticulation of gas infrastructure, fire main installation, concrete pavements & structures, rail infills, flexible pavements, car parks, concrete pathways, deep lift asphalt on ballast, retaining walls and guard rails.
Key challenges on the project included; poor ground conditions, high water table, low level of site in relation to sea level, Management of contaminated fill materials, uncovering previously dumped asbestos materials, working adjacent to live rail, large narrow site provided significant planning and access issues, sourcing capping material which meets the low permeability requirements.
