The 120MW Quarantine Gas Turbine project is located on Torrens Island (SA) approximately 20kms North West of the Adelaide CBD. CATCON were contracted to construct the civil works package including; piling, detailed excavation, concrete works, precast concrete panel construction, electrical infrastructure, conduits, pit lids earthing, boring for earth stakes, stormwater drainage works, plant waste water reticulation, roadworks pavements, asphalt pavements and bollards.
The main plant used during the project were; excavators 5t – 25t, front end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, water carts, rollers 3t-12t, small compaction equipment, franna, boring machine and concrete pumps.
The project required full JSA reporting on a daily basis, excavation permits, working in controlled areas, full QA, safety and environmental management systems. The project also entailed working under special conditions as the site was based on sand and the ground water was quite shallow.
