CATCON were contracted to excavate and remove the Clayton Regulator (located 90km South of Adelaide, South Australia), an earth dam previously installed in the Murray River from the excavation of the Hindmarsh Marina. This was installed during a drought to ensure the Acid Sulphate Soils (ASS) of the river bed were not uncovered. With the river reaching a certain flow requirement, the Regulator was to be removed by land, starting from the middle of the river and working back towards Hindmarsh Island. The project required twice Daily water quality testing and this was coupled with weekly results sent off to NATA laboratory.
CATCON were then requested by the client to remove the other existing sections of the Regulator that were not part of the existing contract. CATCON (by obtaining Barges, a Punt Boat and a Captain) then dredged from the far side of the channel by attaching a 30tn Excavator to a barge and filling the others with three 10m3 Blue Bins each. CEMP was used to ensure all EPA requirements were met onsite for water and soil quality. Barges required working with Naval engineers for Barge safety.
