Heavy civil works and construction work was undertaken during the rehabilitation of the Pasminco Port Pirie Smelters “PETS” – Processed Effluent Treatment System Project.

The work was carried out adjacent to an existing plant that was kept in continuous operation during the course of the work. Major earthworks and the installation of 400 cast insitu piles were required to establish foundations for a large area of floor slabs, reinforced concrete structure and columns constructed for the project.

Civil and Allied Technical Construction’s personnel skilled in civil and concrete construction work were located at Port Pirie for the duration of the works. A concrete cooling tower wash water tank installation together with the construction of a 2 storey precast concrete structure Treatment Plant Filter building were also constructed by CATCON as major components of the work.
