Located approximately 80km South of Karratha (WA) in Cape Preston, CATCON is proud to be involved in the Sino Iron Power Station Project. The project involves civil works for a 420MW power station comprising of; seven gas turbines, three steam turbines and all associated structures. Civil works also include electrical conduits and pits.

Concrete structures are being constructed using a combination of form reo-pour of insitu foundations and pre-cast elements designed to take cyclone loadings. Detailed earthworks for all structures involve excavation down to founding rock layer and backfilling with re-mixed concrete. Equipment in use on the project includes 30t excavators, concrete pumps, 50t crane, 10t crane, front end loaders, water carts and articulated dump trucks.

Due to the remote location, a combination of sourcing local suppliers and transporting materials from existing suppliers in SA has been used. The project has also required careful consideration in the logistics of man-managing personnel on fixed work cycle. The project is also located in a Cyclone region requiring strict adherence to safety and evacuation procedures.
