In an effort to reduce the company's environmental impact, CATCON has purchased a tract of natural bush land approximately 4km North of Padthaway in the South-East of South Australia. The environmental reserve - approximately 200 acres in size - consists of native plants and trees ranging from native grasses to dense native scrub. CATCON intends to preserve this tract of land to help offset the use of fossil fuels and other limited natural resources. In fact, preservation of this native reserve would be enough to offset the carbon emissions from approximately 450,000 litres of diesel fuel used during the construction of the Lake Bonney Wind Farm (calculations supplied by the Australian Greenhouse Office).
